FREESTANDING WORK
The “Family Tree” series are constructed from branches I collect outside my home in Maine. The branches create an organic frame to stretch canvas over, suggesting that the content and the form are inseparable. I frequently layer the paintings by adding textures to the surface or scraping through layers to expose what lies beneath. Some are fitted with wire to mount on a wall, while others stand in a stone base, to be viewed in the round.
